About operatorsix
If 2005 turned out to be a year to remember for Bradford-based crowd pullers Operator Six, then 2006 could well be the year that propels the band into the national spotlight. Operator Six are a 4 piece; Adam Boyce (guitar/Vocals) and brother Alexander Boyce (Guitar) reside in Bingley while Darren Akeroyd (Bass) and Ian Atkinson (Drums) hail from Oakworth in Keighley. To describe the musical style of Operator Six isnt an easy thing to do, with so many different influences Operator Six have a good mix that makes them sound like no one else. 2005 started with the recording of their eagerly anticipated self funded debut studio demo album entitled Alibi which they recorded in the picturesque Calder Valley, on the slopes of the Pennines close to Hebden Bridge. Produced and Engineered by Steve Fenton, the final product was a powerful 10 track album which received exciting reviews. In May of 2005 Operator Six had a tough decision to make, the opportunity to sign to newly created independent label Cone Records was on the table but decided against it in favour of gaining more experience before committing to such a deal. The band then appointed ex Oasis roadie and current Paul Weller guitar tech Roger Trotwood Nowell as their manager, with his experience of the music industry, contacts and Get things done attitude it was defiantly a positive move. July of 2005 proved to be a major turning point for the band which saw the band supporting the Modfather himself Paul Weller at sell out crowds at Bradfords St Georges Hall and Telfords International Centre. The success of the Weller dates lead them to support Ocean Colour Scene at the picturedrome in Holmfirth. With the band constantly writing new material friend of the band Paul Weller invited them down to his private recording studio Black Barn Studios in January of this year where they laid down 3 brand new tracks. For the past couple of months Operator Six have been concentrating on playing gigs across England and Scotland, promoting themselves by appearing on local radio stations and writing more songs and with growing interest from major labels such as V2, EMI and Sony BMG 2006 promises to be a year to remember.
